Is your energy wearing you out?

The hurrier I go, the behinder I get.” (Thank you, Alice) I expend quite a bit of personal fuel in my life remembering to slow down so that I can then get up to speed. My friends who know and love me the best are often encouraging me to walk before jogging, trot before cantering. To ponder a while before making the important decisions.

Nonetheless, if you never stride toward your future, your aspirations remain just that. Dreams. Goals never to be realized.

Highly significantly persuasive people are masters at keeping a steady pace. One thing my dear friend Terry Duperon often says “if you don’t know what to do, don’t do anything at all.” It’s not a call to dilly-dallying; It’s an acknowledgement that sometimes the answer lives on the far side of mental turmoil, where the mind is rested and clear.

In other words, in the words of Ellen DeGeneres, “Procrastination is not the problem. Procrastination is the solution.

Today’s Action is passivity. Find one thing you’re agonizing about today and consciously commit yourself to delay making a choice on this obstacle in your way. Erase this decision out of your space for a minimum of 24 hours. And ascertain what you find on the far side of a relaxed and worry free day. Don’t put it off; do it now!

Stumbling in the sandbox

It’s a kindness we learned when we were kids.

Respond in kind.

When someone shares their toy with you, you do the same!

It’s this inherent rule of human nature that hinders your progress when building relationship with the already successful group at the top.

You do something nice for someone with high influence and they do not acknowledge. The natural involuntary response as a person who once learned sharing in the playground is to attach all kinds of meaning to this. They must be snooty, a bad person, high and mighty.

How dare they not fulfill their moral obligation to respond in kind?

Even it if was just to acknowledge!

This cycle is the number one mental block that stops influence building.

Reverse your perspective.

The influential person may have countless such acts coming at them all day, every day. All from people consciously or unconsciously wanting support in kind. Building relationship with the highly influential is not a process of quid pro quo.

Today’s assignment – notice where you may be attaching too much significance to the action (or inaction) of another.

There is no need to “fix” anything around this. Noticing will have you naturally change your negative thoughts without any additional effort.

A video dally by Ray Dalio

April 5, 2017 Leave a Comment

.

An interesting case study of influence…

I am a big fan of Ray Dalio – named one of the 50 Most Influential people by Bloomberg Markets and identified as the 69th richest person in the world by Forbes.

Ray and his wife Barbara have even joined Bill Gates and Warren Buffett‘s Giving Pledge, vowing to donate more than half his fortune to charitable causes within his lifetime.

Dalio created a video on How the Economic Machine Works” – a 30-minute animated video that answers the question on how the economy can do a beautiful deleveraging. Wanting to calm the rising panic amongst Americans about the end of the long-term debt cycle.

Dalio has been criticized for using the term “beautiful” to describe “deleveraging,”  a painful process of massive economic correction which has historically led to major depressions and massive social upheaval such as the 1930’s Great Depression and  Nazism.

Dalios’ video has the following purpose and the reason why it continues to go viral:

  1. It makes understanding the economy simple to the average person.
  1. It calms fears that the US is doomed to massive economic crisis.
  1.  It solves a major problem for the financial industry, the calming of growing public panic.
  1. It gives influence to the decision makers at the Central Bank and in the US Government for wise decision making about keeping the economic forces in balance.

The video demonstrates both Ray Dalio’s mastery of the monetary economy, and his mastery of influence. He masterfully invested his influence currency in the influence of the US government and central bank decision makers, noting that if they do it right, we know that it may hurt, but they’ll get us through it.

The influence currency you have is yours to spend or keep. Understanding the world of influence may sound complicated but it’s really simple but not simplistic and easy to follow. It all comes down to interactions and transaction. You already have massive amounts. Spend it and it becomes someone else’s influence. Ironically, when you spend it, it doesn’t leave you. Like air, the minute you breath out, there’s more to take in.

Today’s action – hit the share buttons on Ray Dalio’s video on

How the Economic Machine Works.”

Notice that there is no possibility of repayment of this transaction directly back to you or, in fact, to me for suggesting it. We’ll both simply be helping to calm any panic in the global economy. Ray Dalio is not likely to notice either that I wrote this post or that you hit the share button. But nevertheless, by sharing so, it benefits us all, your influence will still grow.
