OK, I’m panicking…

November 25, 2016 Leave a Comment

shield-492992_640Last week I apologized to Pam (our Director of Operations) more than once for my irritability.

When I stopped to think about it and realized I had a running background hum of panic and overwhelm.

My business is expanding wonderfully and many projects are taking hold.  So my inner child has been frightened. My earliest self doubts rise up as the game I play expands: “I’m too small to play with the big kids”.

I’m normal. My inner limiting beliefs threaten to stop me just like everyone.

Influence requires calming down your frightened inner child.

Today’s exercise – Channel your inner elder.

Look at what’s running in the background right now.  Do you have a self doubt that’s just present, like the hum of your refridgerator. If you’re playing big enough to scare yourself, then your deepest self-doubts may be running in the background. Identify them.

Spend a moment imagining an older, wiser version of you with their hand on your shoulder saying, “Don’t worry, I got this one”

Notice what happens to your fear level.

Forgiveness Friday

November 4, 2016 Leave a Comment

sorryForgive me but it’s Forgiveness Friday again.

When I was three, the youngest of nine kids, my older siblings were the world to me. One winter day I’m trying to get three of my brothers to play with me. I can’t remember the words to say and they don’t understand me. They are too focused on their conversation to figure it out. “No one understands me,” I tell myself in frustration. That negative self talk becomes a repetitive theme for me.

Influence requires you to be confident and emotionally clean. Walking around with anger or self-anger stops that.

Self-forgiveness gets rid of self-anger.

A lot of your negative self talk comes from places you didn’t forgive yourself for a failure. Most of those failures happened when you were young. You just keep reliving similar ones since.

Today’s action – Journal where to tend to get annoyed or angry. Notice one place that you tell yourself you’re not good enough, smart enough, competent enough, etc. Think back to the first time you ever said those words or something similar to yourself. Something happened. You perceived it as a failure or something that shouldn’t have happened. And you said something negative to yourself.

Scan back your memory to that younger version of yourself. See “younger you” through the eyes of wisdom and experience.

Forgive yourself for not responding in a more powerful way. Now tell “younger you” that “older and wiser you” can take it from here. There’s no need to keep living into that failure as a paradigm for your life.
